Kitchen Remodeling Plumbing That Works

Kitchen remodeling involves more than new cabinets and countertops. The plumbing rough-in, fixture installation, and drain configuration underneath it all determine whether your kitchen works the way it should for the next 20 years. Certified Plumbing & Drain handles the plumbing side of kitchen remodels throughout the Greater Sacramento area, from a simple faucet swap to a full reconfiguration of supply and drain lines when you're moving the sink to an island. We've backed every job with upfront pricing and no hidden fees since day one, and we hold a 5-star rating across 20 Google reviews. Call (916) 706-7460 to get the plumbing piece of your remodel scheduled.

What drives the cost of kitchen plumbing remodel work? Primarily the scope: replacing a faucet and garbage disposal is straightforward work. Relocating a sink, adding a prep sink, or rerouting drain lines to match a new layout involves opening walls, extending supply lines, and re-venting the drain stack to code. Older homes with galvanized supply lines may need re-piping before new fixtures go in, because galvanized corrodes from the inside out and a new faucet on a failing supply line is a short-term fix at best. We look at what's behind the wall before we give you a number, not after. Every job is different, contact Certified Plumbing & Drain for an accurate estimate.

What Kitchen Plumbing Remodels Actually Cover Actually Cover

A remodel has a surface layer and a plumbing layer. We handle the second one.

01

Sink and Faucet Installation

New sink cutouts, supply line connections, and drain assembly. We handle undermount, farmhouse, and drop-in configurations, and we make sure the drain vents properly so you're not dealing with slow drainage six months after the contractor leaves.

02

Garbage Disposal Swap or Install

Whether you're adding a disposal for the first time or upgrading to a higher-horsepower unit, we handle the drain connection, mounting assembly, and electrical knockout. A disposal installed without proper drain alignment backs up constantly.

03

Supply Line Rough-In

Moving a sink to an island or a new wall requires extending hot and cold supply lines to the right location before the cabinets go in. We coordinate with your contractor's timeline so the rough-in happens at the right stage, not after the drywall is up.

04

Drain Line Relocation

Relocating a drain involves cutting into the floor or wall, extending the drain line, and maintaining the slope required for drainage to work. We pull any required permits and leave you with work that passes inspection.

05

Dishwasher and Appliance Connections

Dishwasher supply and drain connections, refrigerator ice maker lines, and instant hot water dispensers. Small connections made wrong show up as slow leaks inside a cabinet that nobody notices until there's mold behind the drywall.

06

Pot Filler Installation

Pot fillers mount above the range and require a dedicated supply line roughed into the wall behind your tile. It's a job that has to happen before the backsplash goes in. We've done enough of these to know what goes wrong when the sequence is off.

HOW IT WORKS

Our Process From First Call to Final Fixture

  1. 01

Walk the Job Before Anything Else

We look at where you're starting and where you're going. That means checking existing supply lines, drain configuration, and what's behind the wall before we quote anything. No guessing.

  2. 02

    Coordinate With Your Remodel Timeline

Plumbing happens in two phases: rough-in before walls close, and trim-out after. We work around your contractor's schedule so the plumbing doesn't hold anything up.

  3. 03

    Finish Work That Passes Inspection

We pull the permits that the job requires and leave you with work that meets California plumbing code. You shouldn't have to worry about this when you go to sell the house.

OLDER HOMES

Galvanized Pipes and Kitchen Remodels

A lot of homes built before 1980 throughout the Greater Sacramento area still have galvanized steel supply lines. Galvanized corrodes from the inside, so the pipe looks fine on the outside while the interior diameter is half what it should be. Low water pressure at a brand-new faucet is usually the first sign. If your kitchen is getting a full update and the supply lines are original galvanized, the honest answer is to replace them as part of the project rather than connect new fixtures to failing pipe. We do full re-piping work in copper and we'll tell you straight whether it's necessary or whether a partial replacement gets the job done. We don't push a full re-pipe when a section is all that's needed. If you're also planning a bathroom remodeling project at the same time, doing both together often makes more sense than opening walls twice.

What We Won't Do

  1. 01

Quote You One Number and Bill Another

Upfront pricing means the number we give you is the number on the invoice. We've been doing this for 13 years and we've never operated any other way.

  2. 02

    Recommend Work You Don't Need

If a faucet swap is all the situation calls for, that's what we quote. We won't upsell a full re-pipe on a kitchen where the supply lines are in good shape.

  3. 03

    Leave You Waiting Without Updates

Remodels run on tight schedules. If something changes, you'll hear from us before it affects your timeline. Jose and his crew answer calls. That's not a small thing.

Kitchen Remodeling Plumbing: Common Questions

Do I need a permit to relocate my kitchen sink?
In most California jurisdictions, yes. Moving a sink to a new location requires altering the drain and supply rough-in, which triggers a permit requirement. We pull the permits that the job requires. Skipping the permit is a problem you'll deal with at resale, when the buyer's inspector flags unpermitted plumbing work.
Can my existing drain line handle a second sink if I add a prep sink?
It depends on the existing drain configuration and whether the stack has enough capacity. A prep sink adds fixture units to the drain system, and if the existing vent isn't sized for two fixtures, you'll get slow drainage and gurgling from both sinks. We assess the existing drain before we connect anything new to it.
What's involved in moving a sink from a wall to a kitchen island?
It's one of the more involved kitchen plumbing jobs. Supply lines need to be extended under the floor to the island location, the drain needs to be run and properly sloped, and the drain has to be vented, which typically means running a vent line through the floor or using an air admittance valve where code allows. It's not a DIY project.
My water pressure dropped after a new faucet was installed. What's wrong?
Nine times out of ten in an older home, the supply lines are the problem. Galvanized pipe corrodes from the inside and restricts flow over time. A new faucet doesn't fix that. The low pressure was probably there before, just hidden by the old faucet's aerator. We'd check the shut-off valves and the supply line condition before assuming it's the faucet.
How do I know if I need to re-pipe before my kitchen remodel?
Signs include consistently low pressure throughout the house, rust-colored water when you first turn on the tap, or visible corrosion on exposed pipe sections. If the home was built before 1975 and the pipes have never been replaced, we look at them before connecting new fixtures. Check out our leak detection page for more on catching hidden pipe problems early.
Can you work around my contractor's schedule for the rough-in and trim-out phases?
Yes, and we coordinate this on every remodel job. Rough-in happens before the drywall closes, and trim-out happens after tile and cabinets are in. We need to know the contractor's timeline to schedule both phases correctly. Call us early in the project, not after the cabinets are already in and someone realizes the drain is in the wrong spot.
